Borrowed From The Boys Featuring Gala Gonzalez and John Steiner
Real-life couple, influencer Gala Gonzalez and magician John Steiner share many things in their lives—including their favourite new shoes. Selected from Jimmy Choo’s new dual gender Borrowed from the Boys collection, here they showcase androgynous flats and discuss exactly how they style them.
DOES YOUR LOOK HAVE AN ANDROGYNOUS TWIST AND IF SO HOW?
"Gala: I feel like I’m always more confident when I’m wearing menswear in general – I’ve always been drawn to the colour palette and feel like boys get to have more fun than us! I definitely like to incorporate a masculine feeling with my accessories and feel much more powerful when I’m in pants than in a dress or a skirt. There’s no doubt that androgynous tailoring can be very empowering.".
"John: I’d describe my style as bohemian chic whereas Gala is always effortless and elegant".
WHAT ARE THE PIECES YOU MOST LIKE TO BORROW FROM YOUR BOYFRIEND’S WARDROBE?
"Gala: It’s always his jumpers that I want – the oversized man’s knit is just a classic. It’s the bagginess and the oversize fit that makes you feel like you’re inside a shell of protection. It’s so cosy, like you’re carrying a blanket and bringing the sofa with you. I also love his jackets".
"I’M ALWAYS MORE CONFIDENT WHEN I’M WEARING MENSWEAR"
"SHOWING YOUR LEGS IS ALWAYS A SEXY TOOL TO MAKE SOMETHING FEEL REALLY STRONG IF YOU WEAR FLAT SHOES"
EXPLAIN HOW YOU HAVE STYLED THE TWO LOOKS TO INTEGRATE AN ANDROGYNOUS FEEL?
"Gala: We wanted to wear matching styles, but I also just wanted to show that you can make the look both feminine and masculine. Showing your legs is always a sexy tool to make something feel really strong if you wear flat shoes. To me it’s about breaking the rules and pairing a skirt with luxury, masculine flats definitely looks more interesting. Really you don’t need anything extra when you’re showing your legs".
"John: I loved the way the shoes felt both classy and comfortable. It’s not just about the way a pair of shoes looks—they also feel great too. When it comes to women’s style I think a full-on menswear look can be really cool for some occasions but generally I prefer it when there is a bit of femininity there too".
WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING TOGETHER ON THE SHOOT?
"Gala: I really loved it and it was great that we were able to offer both a feminine or masculine point of view on the same designs. It’s not something that we’re used to doing at all – but it was interesting. By the end of the shoot he was showing his magic and everyone was in love with him!"
