Encompassing ‘90s Chic, discover the new season collection that celebrates the notion of contradictory glamour.
Kristen Noel Crawley and Evan Mock style Jimmy Choo x Timberland
Kristen Noel Crawley and Evan Mock have garnered a reputation for being unapologetically themselves. Kristen is the woman behind black beauty empire KNC Beauty. Her masks restore the lips of A-List stars, and earlier this year she launched a beauty school to help the next class of black entrepreneurs.
Hailing from Hawaii, skater, surfer, model and photographer Evan Mock is a catwalk regular with a daredevil streak. Discovered by Frank Ocean, Evan is undeniably a star ascending – and he is described by Kristen as an ‘incredibly authentic spirit’.
Kristen and Evan’s confidence and sense of liberty echo guiding inspirations for Jimmy Choo x Timberland: the capsule collection fusing two brand’s design iconography with limited-edition styles that offer off-duty glamour.
Here, the dynamic pair discuss the evolution of their style and reveal what they have learned from lockdown forcing them to stand still.
"The boots are so easy to integrate into the every day, I won’t even have to think about it. I’ll wear them for city walks or to dinner with friends" – EVAN
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Kristen: Carrie Bradshaw mixed with 90’s aesthetic and a little bit of Barbie. I love to add a pop of unexpected colour when creating my beauty and style looks.
Evan: Hawaii absolutely influences my style. Vintage Hawaiian t-shirts make up half of my wardrobe. I’m proud of being from Hawaii and want to show this.
THE JIMMY CHOO X TIMBERLAND COLLABORATION IS A BALANCE OF GLAMOUR MEETS CASUAL – HOW WILL YOU INCORPORATE THE BOOTS INTO YOUR WARDROBE?
K: My first thought is to pair the boots with baggy, reconstructed jeans, a crop top and an oversized, puffy jacket.
E: The boots are so easy to integrate into the every day, I won’t even have to think about it. I’ll wear them for city walks or to dinner with friends.
HOW HAS YOUR STYLE EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS?
K: I include a more feminine approach, although I will always have an affinity for streetwear.
E: It’s been a learning experience. I’ve gone through so many phases of what I thought was cool - what makes me feel comfortable and what makes me feel good.
"Regardless of your past or your privilege, if you want to do something you most definitely can. And enjoy living in the moment, stay humble and be nice to people" – EVAN
PLEASE SHARE YOUR FAVOURITE STYLE FROM THE JIMMY CHOO X TIMBERLAND COLLECTION
K: Obviously, the all-over crystal pair, just because they’re so special and one-of-a-kind.
E: The black pair. They are classic and will go with everything.
TIMBERLAND WILL PLANT A TREE FOR EVERY PAIR OF BOOTS CREATED IN THIS COLLABORATION – HOW IMPORTANT IS SUSTAINABILITY TO YOU?
K: I’m trying to improve on everything I do, from using reusable grocery bags to developing sustainable packaging for KNC Beauty’s products.
E: Being a surfer, I’ve seen first-hand the amount of plastic in the ocean. There is one earth and we must take care of it. Starting small still makes a difference. When you go to the beach, pick up pieces of rubbish. Someone could see you and change their habits as a result.
LOCKDOWN HAS HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING NATURE IN OUR DAILY LIVES – HAS OUTDOOR LIFE ALWAYS BEEN IMPORTANT TO YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING?
K: Absolutely. I really enjoy being outdoors with my family – from a walk at sunset to a picnic in the park - because we connect in different ways than when we’re all at home.
E: Honestly, outdoor life is everything to me. Growing up in Hawaii, the water and the beach was all I knew. Now I live in New York for part of the year and I walk or skateboard to stay active.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF DURING LOCKDOWN?
K: The importance of setting everything aside to connect with family.
E: I’ve learned how important it is to check in with my friends when we can’t hang out.
KRISTEN, HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO YOU TO USE YOUR PLATFORM TO SPEAK ABOUT ISSUES, INCLUDING THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT?
It’s immensely important for me to use my voice to bring light to racial issues. I created the KNC School of Beauty because I wanted to use my influence to help encourage aspiring black female entrepreneurs on their paths to success.
EVAN, AS AN INTERNATIONAL MODEL, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT YOU?
That I got famous overnight because I dyed my hair pink. People don’t understand that I work hard and I was prepared to take advantage of opportunities when I received them
TELL US A SECRET NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT YOU…
K: I have an unhealthy obsession with The Office!
E: I broke both my arms falling out a tree when I was 11. I had two casts and thought I was quite cool [laughs]. It sparked my interest in spontaneous activities.
FINALLY, PLEASE SHARE THE BEST PIECE OF LIFE ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN
K: Just do it.
E: Regardless of your past or your privilege, if you want to do something you most definitely can. And enjoy living in the moment, stay humble and be nice to people.
