Introducing ‘The Diamond’ – Claridge’s Christmas Tree 2022
This year we kicked off the festive season in dramatic fashion; with the unveiling of ‘The Diamond’, Claridge’s Christmas tree 2022.
When it comes to celebrating Christmas in London, there’s one iconic destination you can’t miss. Claridge’s, London’s legendary Mayfair hotel, is nothing short of a British institution, and in recent years their epic Christmas trees have come to define the festive season. This year’s tree, ‘The Diamond’, was a work of art dreamt up by Jimmy Choo creative Sandra Choi and realised by esteemed set designer Simon Costin.
Aptly named ‘The Diamond’, this sculptural creation stands at over 5 metres tall and took over 350 hours to construct. Painstakingly crafted from over 69 reflective mirrors, accented with 60 meters of sparkling lights - which reflect off the multifaceted surface - and 250 individual aluminium panels, the tree is a feat of architectural excellence. Of course, in true Jimmy Choo style, it is finished with a giant, glittering bow topper - a nod to one of the key design themes of the new winter collection.
Jewels have long been synonymous with Jimmy Choo, however, this special project allowed Sandra to realise her ultimate fantasy - to actually step inside one. ‘The Diamond’ has been specially designed to allow guests to stand inside the magical, diamond-refracted space. This experiential element means the tree - with its mesmerising lights and enchanting reflections – not only transforms Claridge’s lobby into a fully immersive space, it also ensures a unique and personal festive moment for everyone who steps inside.
“Claridge’s is a London icon. The perfect blend of glamour and decadence - great things happen at Claridge’s. There’s a magic energy as you enter the doors that’s contagious, from the warmth of the staff to the discrete buzz of guests in the lobby. And at night the hotel invites you to party. Claridge’s is a London jewel, it’s multifaceted, like the diamond that inspired our tree, like Jimmy Choo.” – Sandra Choi, Creative Director, Jimmy Choo
The Diamond was officially unveiled on the 23rd of November with a suitably star-studded cocktail party. Guests including Sienna Miller, Iris Law, Erin O’Connor, Munroe Bergdorf and Aweng Cheuol – among many others – quaffed Laurent Perrier champagne and enjoyed a special performance from homegrown singer-songwriter Olivia Dean who was accompanied by The Bassnote Collective gospel choir.
